What ARP 4754B changes for new programs

ARP 4754 defines the development assurance process for civil aircraft and systems, and the move from revision A to revision B refines how that process is described and how it interfaces with the safety assessment and the item-level standards. For a program in planning, the practical questions are the same regardless of revision: how is the process defined, how are functions and items allocated their assurance levels, and how will validation and verification be evidenced. Getting those answers into the plan early is what gives a development assurance program a defensible footing.

Because ARP 4754 sits above DO-178C and DO-254, weak planning here cascades: an unclear assurance-level allocation or validation strategy at the system level becomes rework in every item below it.
