8 Steps of Reverse Engineering to show DO-254 Compliance
The current implementation and application of DO-254 is in its infancy for most companies. Even those that have a reasonable understanding of the guidance often tend to get the majority of the detail design work done before establishing a requirements baseline. This places them out of sync with the assumed “Top Down” process. There are even a significant number that do not begin any design assurance activities until after there is a fully functional prototype. This paper introduces a methodology which can be used to developing a process which will allow reverse engineering of a Proof of Concept (PoC) prototype FPGA to gain compliance to DO-254. This paper represents an alternate means of complying with DO-254 (as DO-254 does not recognize a Reverse Engineering process). As such, this should be documented early and concurrence gained with the certification authority before its use.
